Freeport, Maine

Structural Engineering: Casco Bay Engineering
Energy Auditor: Complete Home Evaluation Services
Builder: Senecal Construction Services
LEED Provider: Thornton Tomasetti

The first home in the Kelsey Brook subdevelopment in Freeport, an energy efficient home with proper solar orientation and an open, contemporary plan. The project has received LEED Silver certification and a very good HERS rating of 46 (without solar panels).

The Douglas Fir sunshades allow solar gain in the winter but will block the direct sun in the summer. Double stud walls, triple-glazed windows, and a roof insulated to R-60, combined with an efficient air-source heat pump and heat recovery ventilator, creates a very welcome home environment. Special attention was made to design a home with low maintenance and long-standing materials such as a metal roof and fiber cement siding.

Designed to be adaptable for the future, a first floor master bedroom suite and garage can be added on without disruption to the existing house.
