Southern Maine

Architecture: David Matero Architecture
Lighting Design: Greg Day Lighting
Builder: Leo Richardson

With children off to college, a couple beginning to downsize into a second floor apartment asked DayMatero studio to help them visualize the space. Two bedrooms and a master bedroom suite, along with an open plan, will still remain a family residence for multiple generations.

By using Douglas Fir boards to separate the entry and double as an accent wall from the centrally located dining room, the open floor plan has defined spaces. Further defining the dining room from the living is a double-sided gas fireplace and also a dropped Douglas Fir ceiling.

Lighting was used to integrate and highlight the architecture by grazing the stone of the fireplace, making the backsplash sparkle, and providing ambient light for the high ceilings with a well-crafted soffit detail.
