DMA’s third project in this home association in Yarmouth, the original cottage was removed but the footprint had to remain the same. DMA was able to expand the one-story cottage into an energy efficient, two-story cottage.
Designed within the strict home association guidelines, certain elements were required such as grey cedar shingle siding, white trim and asphalt shingles. However, DMA was responsible for reducing the mass of the structure by keeping the height as low as possible while still designing two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor.
A curved roof, along with dormers, was introduced to break up the mass of the roof, but that allowed for an interesting and dynamic living room ceiling. This 2,100 sf, 3 bedroom cottage seems smaller than its actual size.
