A compound of structures linked by a covered boardwalk, each of the structures are small and energy efficient, and have wonderful views of the Kennebec River.

The main house is a total of 2,000 sf (1,000 sf each floor) and was sited at the edge of a steep slope so the main level is at grade (living spaces and primary bedroom). The lower level is essentially a walk-out basement with a studio for each couple, mechanicals, and laundry.

The cute, 650 sf, two-bedroom guest house is attached with a covered walkway and has a small kitchen, shared bathroom, and deck off the south side.

The two-car garage completes the compound and also incorporates solar panels on the roof.

Much attention was paid to both energy efficiency and air sealing techniques. Blower door test for both structures came in at around 1.5 ACH 50. The owners have mentioned more than once how comfortable and quiet their home is.
