Stone Barn

Phippsburg, Maine
Architecture: David Matero Architecture
Structural Engineering: Casco Bay Engineering
Builder: Chartier Building and Remodeling
The Stone Barn replaced a dilapidated house on a narrow and ledge-filled site. The ledge was blasted to allow an entrance to the site off the road and for vehicle storage under the barn to conserve space. Due to code restrictions the garage is enclosed with slat walls.
The upper level is a simple studio and acts as an extension of the summer cottage on the hill. The studio doubles as a living and entertainment room and a bedroom with a built-in Murphy bed. The white-washed pine walls offer a quiet palette of colors contrasting with the gray exterior.
