DMA designed this two-car garage and studio years ago. It was designed with an office, exercise studio, bathroom, and kitchenette so it could double as a guest cottage.
Immediately during construction it was discovered that a portion of the building was over property setbacks/lot line. A major pivot by DMA redesigned a side by side garage to a back to back garage so that it could fit within a building envelope. In addition, all major components were reused such as windows, fixtures, and structural elements.
DMA turned a challenge into a unique design that creatively fits the parameters of site constraints and the owner’s wishes.
